Narrative
After the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, makes a play to take the reins of Gotham’s underworld. Except for the bat signal in the last finale of the season, we never got one. In this short video, IMDb tries to answer: Where was Batman?. Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin Smoking Tobacco in Batman (2022), but failed.
It fits the tone and atmosphere perfectly
However, his own series portrays the character as an occasional tobacco user, preferring cigars. The DC Studios logo is on a rainy Gotham alley. The umbrella drops and the logo changes to the Warner Bros logo. The Graham Norton Show Starring: Lady Gaga / Demi Moore / Colin Farrell / Richard Ayoade / Jack Savoretti (2024).
Where to start with Farrell
Small, dirty and dark, but Farrell manages to capture that flash of charm that Gandolfini did in Tony Soprano. There are similarities with sopranos, especially in tone. There’s a lot of dark stuff in this opening series, but there are still comedic moments that fit the tone without breaking it. Amazing is the right word.
And Farrell as an actor is completely immersed in this role
I love seeing talented actors star in roles like this and the makeup/cgi or whatever exactly they did to make him a penguin physically not only passes the eye test but looks incredibly realistic. There’s always the risk that if the makeup job isn’t good enough or a little off, it can be completely distracting. In Penguin, it improves his performance and the overall quality of the show because it’s such a damn good job. I might be a little biased because he was one of my favorite actors until this show, but I think this will get him the accolades he deserves.
Kudos to everyone who contributed to this project
I never go straight to new shows because I like to watch all the episodes at once, but I wanted to see how this one actually played out. I was not disappointed, in fact I was blown away.
