Narrative
A down-on-his-luck chef with a gambling problem escapes to a villa in Latin America, where he poses as a second man. Filmed in the fall of 2021 over 23 days. Jack: It could have been a lot worse. I was debating whether to give this movie a seven or an eight. As thrillers go, this is a solid eight. If we’re talking about movies in general, I’d give it a seven.
So I don’t understand that criticism
Science fiction is my favorite genre, but this is not science fiction. For some reason, people keep asking me to call it a «B» movie. It’s not. I wouldn’t even call it a low-budget movie. This is a movie that doesn’t require a big budget. Nothing feels cheap, and it doesn’t feel like the producers skimped on anything to make it.
The pacing is perfect
The strength of the film, of course, is in the plot — that’s what any good film should be about. This is an interesting story with competent actors, screenwriters, cinematography, etc. d. I’ve read other reviews and some have called it «slow». It’s not. If anyone thinks this film is slow, I’d call it an impatient viewer.
It’s just a good script
It takes time to make the characters relatable and create an atmosphere that feels authentic. This is not a waste of time. Also, as others have noted, there doesn’t seem to be much buzz surrounding this film. I guess it just slipped away. I can definitely imagine this being one of those films that people will talk about. However, the lack of focus works well for the film, as you actually want to watch it without knowing anything about it.
The unfolding of the story provides all the fun
If you like well-written thrillers and are a patient viewer, then there is no real reason not to like this film. My main advice is to watch it before reading any other reviews. As I have already said, the less you know, the better. The more reviews you read, the more likely you are to encounter spoilers; whether they are minor or not.
